About This Website

American Centuries: View from New England shares thousands of objects and documents from the collections of the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association (PVMA), the earliest museum in western Massachusetts. The website’s user-friendly format and interactive activities encourage users of all ages to explore centuries of American and millennia of Indigenous histories. Objects and documents from the Memorial Hall Museum and PVMA Library have been photographed or scanned at a high resolution, encouraging close looking and comparison. Accompanying interpretive text created by PVMA staff in consultation with nationally recognized scholars and K-12 educators provides important context for each item on American Centuries.
