White cotton gloves remain a standard part of dress uniforms. These were owned and worn by Brigadier General Frederick E. Pierce (1865-1953) of the 2nd Massachusetts Infantry Regiment. He joined just after the company was formed in Greenfield, Massachusetts, and served during the Spanish-American War (1898-99). Just before his reitrement, Pierce was promoted to Major General. He served Greenfield in a number of political and service positions until his death in 1953.
